Mission

Administrative Investigations (AI) helps ensure ethical conduct throughout the DoD by conducting investigations and overseeing DoD Component investigations of allegations of misconduct by senior DoD officials, whistleblower reprisal, and Service member restriction from communication with an IG or Member of Congress.  AI also manages the DoD Hotline and the Contractor Disclosure Program, provides education and training on whistleblower protections through its Whistleblower Protection Coordinator, and facilitates voluntary resolution of whistleblower reprisal allegations through its Alternative Dispute Resolution program.

The DoD Office of Inspector General (OIG) plans to begin a multidisciplinary review in January 2021. Our objective is to determine the DoD’s roles, responsibilities, and actions to prepare for, and respond to, the planned protest and its aftermath at the U.S. Capitol campus on January 6, 2021.

Investigative Summary - Substantiated Findings of Military Whistleblower Reprisal and Restriction against a Member of the Army National Guard

The DoD Office of Inspector General initiated these investigations upon receipt of allegations that an Army National Guard (ARNG) major reprised against an ARNG second lieutenant for making protected communications and that a separate ARNG major attempted to restrict the second lieutenant from lawfully communicating with an Inspector General.

Investigative Summary - Substantiated Findings of Misconduct by a Former DoD Senior Official for Sexually Harassing Subordinate Employees

The Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) initiated this investigation upon receipt of allegations that a DoD member of the Senior Executive Service (SES), since retired, assigned to an agency subordinate to the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, sexually harassed subordinate agency employees.

On June 11, 2019, the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General initiated a review of the DoD Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure Cloud procurement, and an investigation into allegations that former DoD officials engaged in ethical misconduct related to the JEDI Cloud procurement.

On February 7, 2019, the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment referred a complaint to the DoD Office of Inspector General alleging that Mr. Guy B. Roberts, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense Programs, sexually harassed a woman on his staff.
