DoD Hotline - Read Before Filing

After filing a complaint you will receive the following automated response:

Your complaint was successfully submitted.
Your submission number is:
2017xxxxxxxxxxxx

*****IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR COMPLAINT*****

What to expect depending on the nature of your complaint:

• NEW COMPLAINT:  Your complaint is under review. If it’s appropriate for another agency to investigate your complaint, it will be forwarded to the appropriate agency.  You will only be contacted if we require additional information. Once a case is opened, we will not discuss its progress, and we will not respond to status requests. You will be notified when your complaint is closed. At that time you will be provided instructions on how to submit a records request.

• DISCRIMINATION COMPLAINTS:  Equal Employment Opportunity (Civilian) and Equal Opportunity (Military) complaints must be filed with your agency or service’s EEO or EO office within the timeframes specified in EEO guidelines or you may forfeit your rights under the EEO Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Your local EEO or EO office, as well as the EEO Commission (EEOC) at http://www.eeoc.gov/ and the DoD Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity (ODMEO) at http://diversity.defense.gov/ can provide further information and guidance.

• ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  If you submitted additional information or consent to release your identity for investigating your complaint, we will process this information upon receipt.

You may have just made a “protected communication” under Whistleblower Protection Laws. If you suffer retaliation for filing this complaint, you may file a retaliation complaint. To learn more please refer to the Department of Defense Whistleblower Protection Coordinator website.

                                                                               This is an auto-generated response.

Confidentiality and Privacy

You are not required to identify yourself when submitting a DoD Hotline complaint. In addition to filing anonymously (where you do not give your name to the DoD Hotline), you may choose to provide your name and request confidentiality.

CONSENT TO DISCLOSURE:

DoD OIG personnel will not disclose the identity of an IG source to individuals outside the DoD OIG unless one of the following conditions below is met:

a. The complainant or witness consents to disclosure outside of the DoD OIG and disclosure is made pursuant to the DoD OIG personnel’s duties.

b. The DoD Inspector General determines the disclosure is unavoidable during the course of the investigation.

ANONYMOUS FILING STATUS:
If you file your complaint anonymously, we will not know who you are, and we will not be able to contact you to request additional information.

Contact your Local Inspector General First
A quicker way to resolve your complaint, could be to first contact your local or command-level Inspector General's Office. In some instances, your local Inspector General has direct cognizance, purview, and oversight over programs, personnel, and operations regarding your complaint. In addition to receiving your complaint, your local Inspector General may be able to guide you to other channels for resolution.
