Mission

The mission of the Freedom of Information Act Office is to effectively and efficiently process Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, appeals, consultations, and litigation matters for records maintained by the DoD, Office of Inspector General.

The DoD OIG FOIA Requester Service Center is available to assist in understanding the records maintained by the DoD OIG and the FOIA process for those records.  FOIA requesters who have questions concerning the processing of their requests within the DoD, Office of Inspector General, should contact us at:

* Please note that this office does not process FOIA requests for the entire Department of Defense (DoD). 

Please direct requests related to the Military Services, Combatant Commands, or other Defense Agencies to the appropriate organization/component that maintains the record(s) of interest. Additional information on specific areas of interest and FOIA offices within the DoD can be found on publicly available Internet websites, including the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff FOIA website and the FOIA.gov website .
