DoD OIG Freedom of Information Act Office

Mission

The mission of the DoD OIG Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Office is to effectively and efficiently process FOIA requests, appeals, consultations, and litigation matters for records maintained by the DoD OIG.

DoD OIG FOIA Requester Service Center

The DoD OIG FOIA Requester Service Center is available to assist in understanding the records maintained by the DoD OIG and the FOIA process for those records. FOIA requesters who have questions concerning the processing of their requests within the DoD OIG, can contact us at:

Toll-Free: (866) 993-7005
Commercial: (703) 604-9775
Fax: (571) 372-7498
Email: foiarequests@dodig.mil

Please note that this office does not process FOIA requests for the entire DoD. Please direct requests related to the Military Services, Combatant Commands, or other Defense Agencies to the appropriate organization/component that maintains the record(s) of interest. Additional information on specific areas of interest and FOIA offices within the DoD can be found on publicly available Internet websites, including the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff FOIA website and the FOIA.gov website.

The Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) Freedom of Information and Privacy Act Office processes all requests for background investigation records. This processing was previously controlled by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) National Background Investigations Bureau.

Before submitting a FOIA request, please check to see if the information you seek is available in our FOIA Reading Room or on the DoD OIG website.

If you are not satisfied with the service you received from this FOIA Request Service Center, you may contact the FOIA Public Liaison for assistance, at (703) 604-9785 or via email at: FOIAPublicLiaison@dodig.mil.
