June 10, 2013 — DoD IG Semiannual Report to the Congress | October 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013

The Semiannual Report to the Congress has been issued for the reporting period of October 1, 2012, through March 31, 2013. The report summarizes the scope of our achievements of DoD IG, as well as the contributions of the audit and investigative agencies of the military departments.

During the reporting period, DoD IG issued 64 reports and identified $1.3 billion in potential monetary benefits. DCIS investigations resulted in 56 arrests, 102 criminal charges, 98 criminal convictions, 98 suspensions, and 95 debarments, as well as $1.6 billion returned to the U.S. government.

This report highlights a few of those significant projects completed during the reporting period, including investigation of a prime DoD contractor for falsely claiming to be a service-disabled veteran owned small business, and evaluation of the Air Force Accident Investigation Board report on the F-22A mishap of November 16, 2010. This issue also discusses the DoD Whistleblower Protection Program, including the appointment of a DoD whistleblower protection ombudsman.
