SPO Assessment Team Conducts Combating Trafficking in Persons Evaluation in Afghanistan

February 21, 2012 - A Special Plans and Operations Assessment Team from the DoD Office of Inspector General recently conducted fieldwork at U.S. and NATO Installations throughout Afghanistan regarding the Combating Trafficking in Persons Program. The team conducted over 100 interviews with command staff, contracting officials, and contractors responsible for contract performance and execution in Kabul, Bagram, Kandahar, Camp Leatherneck and Shindand. The team briefed their preliminary observations to senior contracting officials in Kabul.

The field work was part of the evaluation responding to requirements in Public Law 110- 457, "William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008," and Department of Defense Instruction 2200.01, "Combating Trafficking in Persons," dated September 15, 2010.

Ocotober 14, 2010 - A Special Plans and Operations Assessment Team from the DoD Office of Inspector General recently returned from conducting fieldwork at U.S. Installations in Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain regarding the Combating Trafficking in Persons evaluation. 

The team conducted over 40 interviews with command staff, contracting officials, and contractors responsible for contract performance with U.S. Army Central, U.S. Air Force Central, and the Naval Supply Systems Command.  Prior to departing, the team briefed preliminary observations to Maj. Gen. Peter M. Vangjel, Deputy Commanding General, Third Army, USARCENT, Coalition Forces Land Component Command. (more)

 
Special Plans & Operations Assessment Team Returns from Iraq

Deputy Inspector General Kenneth P. Moorefield inspects weapons June 9, 2010 –A DoD IG Assessment team, led by Ambassador Kenneth P. Moorefield, Deputy Inspector General for Special Plans & Operations, recently returned from conducting fieldwork in Iraq on the “Assessment of U.S. Government Efforts to Develop the Logistics Sustainment Capability of the Iraqi Security Forces.”

The team visited more than 20 U.S. Forces-Iraq and 30 Iraqi Security Forces locations, from the Taji General Depot and the Al Asad Location Commands, to the Baghdad Police College and the Directorate of Border Enforcement’s 3rd Regional Maintenance Facility, located close to the Iraqi border with Iran.

During their visit, the team met with Lt. Gen. Michael Barbero, USA, USF-I Deputy Commanding General (Advising and Training), Lt. Gen. Kenneth W. Hunzeker, Deputy Commanding General (Support), USF-I, and other senior military officers and staff. (more)  

 
CTIP Team Returns From Visit to Korea

Photo of AFRHNovember 10, 2009 - A Combating Trafficking In Persons team from the DoD IG Office of Policy and Oversight, Inspections and Evaluations Directorate recently returned from an inspection trip at U.S. military installations in the Republic of Korea.

The CTIP team is evaluating the inclusion of CTIP language into DoD contracts, as well as organizational CTIP program performance.  Prior to departing, the CTIP team met with Gen. Walter Sharp, Commander, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and United Stated Forces Korea, and briefed him on their observations. (more)

 
Special Plans and Operations Team Returns from Afghanistan

April 15, 2009 – The DoD IG Special Plans and Operations (SPO) team has returned to Headquarters after spending 24 days on a field assessment at various sites throughout Afghanistan.

The 17-member team included 11 SPO staff and six other personnel from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Department of the Army, the Army National Guard Bureau, the Army Reserve, and the DoD IG Columbus Audit Field Office. 

The team was organized into sub-teams that visited four NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Regional Commands and numerous Army and Police units throughout the country.  Among the areas visited were Kandahar, Gardez, Mazur-e Sharif, Kabul, Bagram Air Base, Combined Joint Task Force 101, and Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix. 

The teams assessed weapons accountability, the Train and Equip mission for the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), and Medical Logistics Sustainability within the ANSF.

 
I&E Team Preparing for Inspection of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington.

Photo of AFRHFebruary 19, 2009 -  The Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoDIG) Inspections and Evaluations (I&E) Directorate announced an inspection of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington (AFRH-W).

The AFRH-W is a modern retirement community that resides on 272 acres of property in the heart of Washington, DC. This campus is literally “a city within a city,” providing  medical services,  banks, chapels, mail service, Post Exchange, laundry facilities, a barber shop, beauty salon, several dining areas, recreational activities, shuttle service, and access to public transportation.  

The AFRH-W provides independent living, assisted living, and long term care to eligible veterans of all services, with a resident capacity of 1125. (more)
