On December 6, 2022, the Honorable Robert P. Storch assumed his duties as the Department of Defense Inspector General (DoD IG). Mr. Storch is the first Presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed DoD IG in nearly seven years.
Prior to coming on board as the DoD IG, Mr. Storch served for close to five years as the first Presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed IG for the National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA), where he worked to enhance the impact, independence, and transparency of the office’s work. He also spent several years at the Department of Justice (DOJ) OIG, where he served as the Deputy IG and as the DOJ OIG’s first Whistleblower Ombudsperson, leading efforts related to whistleblower rights and protections that he continued to emphasize at NSA OIG. Prior to joining the IG community, he served for some two dozen years as a Federal prosecutor.
As the DoD IG, Mr. Storch intends to continue his commitment to the core values of the IG community—integrity, independence, and transparency—and to promoting whistleblower rights and protections.
“I am deeply honored to be the first Presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed Inspector General for the Department of Defense in nearly seven years,” Mr. Storch said. “The overwhelming bipartisan support for filling this critical position is a reflection of the fundamental importance of independent, non-partisan oversight of the DoD. Ensuring transparency is among my top priorities, and I look forward to engaging with DoD leadership and the Congress as our office works to conduct impactful oversight.”
