Department of War Inspector General Platte B. Moring III and senior leadership from the office’s criminal investigative arm met recently with Colin M. McDonald, the  Department of Justice’s first-ever Assistant Attorney General for the National Fraud Enforcement Division to discuss fraud investigation and prosecution.

The interagency meeting reinforced the longstanding and successful partnership between the Inspector General’s Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS) and the Justice Department in confronting increasingly complex fraud schemes affecting the Department of War. The discussion centered on potential joint initiatives that could further align investigative and prosecutorial priorities. Working closely with United States Attorneys, DCIS Special Agents have conducted high-impact fraud investigations that have returned more than $1 billion annually to the federal government.

“DCIS plays a critical role within the Inspector General’s broader mission to safeguard taxpayer dollars with its investigative expertise in uncovering and disrupting fraud schemes that target War Department programs and operations,” said Inspector General Moring. “Our collaboration with the Department of Justice’s National Fraud Enforcement Division under Assistant Attorney General McDonald’s leadership is essential to holding accountable those seeking to defraud the Department and the American public.”

“The mandate of the National Fraud Enforcement Division is clear: we are rooting out fraud in every corner of the federal government,” said Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald. “By working alongside Department of War Inspector General Platte B. Moring III and his senior leadership team, we will identify, investigate, and prosecute those who steal taxpayer dollars meant to ensure our national security and defense. I look forward to expanding this interagency partnership, upholding the integrity of our war programs, and returning stolen funds to the American taxpayer.”
