Semiannual Report to the Congress - October 1, 2025 Through March 31, 2026

DoW OIG

What We Did:

The DoW OIG submits semiannual reports summarizing its activities as required by the Inspector General Act of 1978. These reports serve to apprise Congress and the Secretary of Defense of noteworthy findings, progress, and recommendations for improvement. The DoW OIG continues to deliver an exceptional return on investment for the American taxpayer. For every dollar invested in our oversight activities this reporting period, we returned $9.88 to the U.S. Government. Our key accomplishments for this reporting period include:

  • Uncovering $1.3 billion in potential monetary benefits and providing 234 actionable recommendations through our 71 programmatic oversight reports and advisories.
  • Recovering more than $2.1 billion through the dedicated efforts of our law enforcement component, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service.
  • Concluding 15 administrative investigations into allegations of misconduct by senior officials, whistleblower reprisal, and restrictions placed upon Service members.

During this reporting period, in addition to continuing the ongoing oversight of Operations Inherent Resolve, Enduring Sentinel, and Southern Guard, Inspector General Platte Moring was designated by the Chair of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency as Lead Inspector General for two additional overseas contingency operations. These new responsibilities include oversight of Operation Southern Spear, the U.S. Southern Command’s mission to disrupt drug trafficking in the East Pacific and Caribbean Sea, and a classified operation.

In his parallel role as the Special Inspector General for Operation Atlantic Resolve, the office has spearheaded whole-of-government oversight for the more than $187.7 billion in funds appropriated by the U.S. Government. To support the Department’s responsible financial management of aid to Ukraine, during this reporting period we issued four audit reports that identified $928.6 million in potential monetary benefits
