Today, Inspector General Robert P. Storch announced that the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) released the report, “Evaluation of Accountability Controls for Seaports of Debarkation in the U.S. European Command Area of Responsibility.” The evaluation examined whether the U.S. European Command was effectively scaling, staffing, and preparing contingency seaports to move items provided to foreign partners through the Presidential Drawdown Authority.
The evaluation found that U.S. European Command personnel were actively taking steps to validate additional seaports to use for delivering items in their area of responsibility but had not completed all of the necessary actions.
“The diversification of seaports directly improves the DoD’s ability to quickly and reliably support our foreign partners now and in the future,” said IG Storch. “The U.S. European Command is making progress in this area, which allows for continued support to our allies.”
The DoD OIG recommended the Commander of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command complete the requirements necessary to validate additional seaports.
The DoD OIG will continue to monitor progress toward full implementation of the recommendation.
