The Honorable Platte Moring today assumes his duties as the Department of Defense Inspector General following the Senate’s confirmation of his Presidential nomination and taking his oath of office. Mr. Moring is the Department’s 10th Senate-confirmed Inspector General.
“I am honored to have been nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate for this critically important role,” said Mr. Moring. “I look forward to working with the dedicated professionals in the Office of Inspector General to conduct independent and impactful oversight to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department’s global programs and operations.”
Mr. Moring brings to the Office of Inspector General extensive experience from a long and distinguished legal career, having worked for the U.S. Court of International Trade, the Departments of Justice and Defense, and in private law practice. Notably, he served as a Deputy General Counsel in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 2019 to 2021. Most recently, Mr. Moring was an adjunct professor at The Citadel and The College of Charleston School of Law. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.
