Semiannual Report to the Congress – October 1, 2021, through March 31, 2022

The Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, requires the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) to prepare semiannual reports summarizing its activities for the preceding 6-month period. These semiannual reports are intended to keep the Secretary of Defense and Congress fully informed of significant findings, progress the DoD has made relating to those findings, and recommendations for improvement.

Whistleblower Reprisal Investigation: Colonel Yevgeny S. Vindman, U.S. Army (DODIG-2022-097)

We conducted this investigation in response to a complaint filed with the DoD Hotline on August 18, 2020, alleging that various administration officials, including former President Donald J. Trump, took actions against Lieutenant Colonel( LTC) YevgenyVindman (the Complainant), U.S. Army, while he was serving at the National Security Council, Washington, D.C., in reprisal for his protected communications.

Project Announcement: Audit of the Defense Logistics Agency Storage of Army Ground Combat Systems Equipment (Project No. D2022-D000AU-0139.000)

The objective of this audit is to determine whether the Defense Logistics Agency properly stored and maintained Army Ground Combat Systems equipment in accordance with DoD policies and guidelines. We may revise the objective as the audit proceeds, and we will consider suggestions from management for additional or revised objectives.

Project Announcement: Evaluation of the Collection of Demographic Data in the Military Justice Systems (Project No. D2022-DEV0PF-0130.000)

We plan to begin the subject evaluation in May 2022. The objective of this evaluation is to determine the extent to which the Services’ are collecting uniform demographic data specific to race and ethnicity in accordance with the Military Justice Act requirements included in the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), as defined by Office of Management and Budget Statistical Policy Directive No. 15. We may revise the objective as the evaluation proceeds, and we will also consider suggestions from management for additional or revised objectives.
