Audit of the Department of Defense Foreign Military Sales Acquisition Process (DODIG-2022-053)

The objective of this audit was to determine whether the DoD managed the acquisition of defense articles and services to meet partner country foreign military sales (FMS) requirements, and whether the metrics used by DoD components maximize the results of the FMS acquisition process. This audit focused on the timeliness of the DoD FMS acquisition process and the accuracy of FMS acquisition data that the DoD reported to Congress.

Audit of DoD Maintenance of Space Launch Equipment and Facilities (DODIG-2022-048)

The objective of this audit was to determine the extent to which the DoD maintained the equipment and infrastructure needed to support space launches and whether DoD facilities could support future launch requirements. We reviewed the Space Force’s maintenance of launch range items at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, and Patrick Space Force Base, Florida, and we determined whether range items enabled successful space launches.

Project Announcement: Summary of Reports and Testimonies Regarding DoD Cybersecurity From July 1, 2020, Through June 30, 2022 (Project No. D2022-D000CS-0046.000)

We plan to begin the subject audit in December 2021. The objective of this audit is to (1) summarize unclassified and classified reports and testimonies regarding DoD cybersecurity that the DoD Office of Inspector General, the Government Accountability Office, and other DoD oversight organizations issued between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2022, concerning DoD cybersecurity; (2) identify cybersecurity trends; and (3) provide a status of open DoD cybersecurity-related recommendations. We may revise the objective as the audit proceeds, and we will also consider suggestions from management for additional or revised objectives.

The Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, requires the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) to prepare semiannual reports summarizing its activities for the preceding 6-month period. These semiannual reports are intended to keep the Secretary of Defense and Congress fully informed of significant findings, progress the DoD has made relating to those findings, and recommendations for improvement.

Project Announcement: Audit of DoD Grants and Cooperative Agreements With Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Obligations (Project No. D2022-D000AT-0029.000)

We plan to begin the subject audit in October 2022. The objective of this audit is to determine whether the DoD obligated Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to grants and cooperative agreements for appropriate expenses incurred in preventing, preparing for, or responding to coronavirus disease–2019. Evaluation of the Department of Defense’s Implementation of Oversight Provisions of Privatized Military Housing (DODIG-2022-004)

The objective of this evaluation was to determine whether the DoD is providing effective oversight of privatized military housing. Our evaluation focused on whether the DoD implemented the oversight provisions of the FY 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI). Our finding captures the status of the DoD’s implementation of the oversight provisions of the FY 2020 NDAA through February 2021.

Audit of U.S. Special Operations Command Maritime Precision Engagement Funds (DODIG-2021-130)

The objective of this audit was to determine whether the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Special Operations Forces, Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (SOF-AT&L) appropriately allocated funds to validated requirements for the Maritime Precision Engagement (MPE) program in accordance with DoD and USSOCOM guidance. We initiated this audit based on a complaint the DoD Office of Inspector General received through the DoD Hotline, and we reviewed specific allegations related to the audit objective.
