Unclassified Summary of Report No. DODIG-2024-124, “Evaluation of Sustaining Engineering Actions for the Space Force’s Upgraded Early Warning Radar”

The Department of Defense Office of Inspector General conducted an evaluation titled “Evaluation of Sustaining Engineering Actions for the Space Force’s Upgraded Early Warning Radar.” The objective of this evaluation was to determine the extent to which the Space Force implemented sustaining engineering actions to ensure that the Upgraded Early Warning Radar was capable, reliable, and available to meet mission requirements while managing risks. Specifically, we determined whether the UEWR program office took sustaining engineering actions that were effective sustainment solutions for the UEWR.

Evaluation of the Military Criminal Investigative Organizations’ Adult Sexual Assault Investigations (DODIG-2023-124)

The objective of this evaluation was to determine whether the Military Criminal Investigative Organizations (MCIOs) investigated reports of sexual assault with adult victims, as required by DoD, Service, and MCIO policy. The MCIOs are the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and Air Force Office of Special Investigations. The objective of a special interest item in this evaluation was to determine whether the MCIOs had untested sexual assault forensic examination (SAFE) kits held as evidence that should have been submitted to a forensic laboratory for testing.

Audit of Triage and Support Services for Sexual Assault Victims at DoD Medical Treatment Facilities (DODIG-2023-120)

The objective of this audit was to determine whether DoD medical treatment facilities triaged sexual assault victims with priority treatment as emergency cases, offered to perform Sexual Assault Forensic Examinations (SAFE), and notified support services, in accordance with Federal and DoD policies. In March 2021, the Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) (ASD[HA]) suggested that we review this topic.

Project Announcement: Followup Audit of the Reliability of Army Spare Parts Forecasts Submitted to the Defense Logistics Agency (Project No. D2021-D000AX-0163.000)

We plan to begin the subject audit in September 2021. The objective of this audit is to determine whether the actions taken by the Army in response to Report No. DODIG-2014-124, “Army Needs to Improve the Reliability of the Spare Parts Forecasts It Submits to the Defense Logistics Agency,” September 29, 2014, improved the accuracy of the Army’s spare parts forecasts. We may revise the objective as the audit proceeds, and we will also consider suggestions from management for additional or revised objectives.
