External Peer Review of the DoD OIG Inspections and Evaluations Components

The DoD OIG received the results of its first external peer review of its Inspections and Evaluations components. The CIGIE peer review team conducted the peer review for the period October 2 through November 17, 2017. The CIGIE peer review team determined that the DoD OIG Inspections and Evaluations components' policies and procedures generally met the Blue Book standards addressed in the peer review. They also concluded that the reports they reviewed also met the applicable Blue Book standards.

External Peer Review of the DoD OIG Auditing Component

The DoD OIG received the results of its external peer review of its Auditing component. The CIGIE peer review team conducted the peer review for the year ending March 31, 2018. The CIGIE peer team determined that the system of quality control for the audit organization of the DoD OIG was suitably designed and complied with to provide the DoD OIG with reasonable assurance of performing and reporting in conformity with applicable standards in all material respects. The DoD OIG received an external peer review rating of pass.

Office of Inspector General Department of Defense FY 2018-FY 2022 Strategic Plan

The Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) is an independent and objective office that provides oversight of DoD programs and operations. The DoD OIG also informs the Secretary of Defense, Congress, and the American Taxpayer about problems, deficiencies, and corrective actions within DoD programs and operations. The DoD OIG also serves as the Lead Inspector General for specified Overseas Contingency Operations, coordinating oversight activities and reporting quarterly to Congress on each operation.

DoD OIG Named 2017 Most Improved Among Federal IGs

The Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) was named the “2017 Most Improved Among Federal Inspectors General” by the Partnership for Public Service. The award was based on the results of the annual Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Federal Viewpoint (FedView) Survey. Max Stier, the founder and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, presented the award to the DoD OIG during a special presentation held January 29 at the Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia.

DoD OIG Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey Results

This year, 486,105 employees responded to the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey out of the 1,068,151 to whom it was sent, for a response rate of 45.5 percent. In total, 747 Department of Defense Office of Inspector General employees completed the survey, for a response rate of 56.3 percent. This exceeds not only the government-wide response rate, but also the overall DoD response rate of 30.3 percent.
