On December 6, 2022, the Honorable Robert P. Storch assumed his duties as the Department of Defense Inspector General (DoD IG). Mr. Storch is the first Presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed DoD IG in nearly seven years.

Insights on Telehealth Use and Program Integrity Risks Across Selected Health Care Programs During the Pandemic

Our office joined the HHS Office of Inspector General and four other OIGs in a Pandemic Response Accountability Committee review of the use of telehealth during the pandemic at six Federal agencies. From inappropriate billing to the need for more data, we examined emerging risks to look out for to protect telehealth in the future. Semiannual Report to the Congress – April 1, 2022 through September 30, 2022

The Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, requires the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) to prepare semiannual reports summarizing its activities for the preceding 6-month period. These semiannual reports are intended to keep the Secretary of Defense and Congress fully informed of significant findings, progress the DoD has made relating to those findings, and recommendations for improvement.

DoD OIG Performs Audit of DoD Basic Financial Statements

On November 15, 2022, the DoD published the DoD FY 2022 Agency Financial Report, which includes the FY 2022 and FY 2021 Agency-Wide Basic Financial Statements.  The DoD Office of Inspector General (OIG) performed an audit of these Basic Financial Statements, as required by the Chief Financial Officers Act of 1990, and issued a disclaimer of opinion—meaning that the auditors could not obtain sufficient, appropriate audit evidence to support an opinion.

Last week, leaders from the Offices of Inspectors General (OIGs) for the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of State (State), and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) concluded a joint trip to Belgium and the Netherlands to meet with U.S., allied officials, and international oversight counterparts in furtherance of their comprehensive oversight over the United States' Ukraine response.

DoD OIG Visits NATO and the European Union

Last week, Deputy Inspector General (IG) Troy Meyer joined a delegation from the Offices of Inspector General (OIGs) for the Department of State (State) and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to visit the U.S. Mission to the European Union, headquarters for the European Union, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
