COVID-19 Expenditures — Lessons Learned Regarding Awareness of Potential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Risk

On April 6, the DoD OIG shared the COVID-19 Expenditures — Lessons Learned Regarding Awareness of Potential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Risk memorandum with DoD leaders to share best practices and lessons learned during previous oversight work. We believe that this document can help the DoD use CARES Act funds effectively, while at the same time seeking to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.

Fiscal Year 2020 Oversight Plan

The Oversight Plan describes the specific oversight projects the DoD OIG intends to conduct in FY 2020, and how those projects are related to the top management challenges facing the DoD. The Oversight Plan and Top DoD Management Challenges documents are related. The Oversight Plan is organized by management challenge. Each chapter provides a summary of a particular challenge, followed by an inventory of the ongoing and planned oversight projects that directly align to that challenge. The Oversight Plan assists the DoD OIG in fulfilling its mission to detect and deter waste, fraud, and abuse in DoD programs and operations; improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the DoD; and help ensure ethical conduct throughout the DoD.

Audit of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Oversight of Contracts for Repair and Restoration of the Electric Power Grid in Puerto Rico DODIG-2019-128

Publicly released: October 3, 2019 We determined whether the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers properly monitored contractor labor hours and accurately reviewed and paid invoices for the Puerto Rico power grid repair and restoration contracts in accordance with Federal and DoD guidance.

This report also includes a brief overview on three other OCOs designated as such on February 9, 2018: Operation Yukon Journey, the Northwest Africa Counterterrorism operation and the East Africa Counterterrorism operation.
