Dr. Belinda Robinson

Ombuds

Dr. Belinda M. Robinson joined the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) in July 2024 as the Ombuds.  In her role, Dr. Robinson provides informal conflict resolution services, coaching, and creative and specially tailored trainings to help teams reach their greatest potential.  She authored book reviews and articles for the International Ombuds Association and actively serves as Co-chair for the United States Ombudsman Association’s Federal Chapter of Ombuds.

Prior to joining the DoD OIG, Dr. Robinson served as associate organizational ombudsman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During her tenure with the FBI, she also served in three operational divisions: Counterterrorism, International Operations, and Counterintelligence, respectively. Dr. Robinson’s contributions to the FBI include coining the My Role in Conflict and All Bottled Up exercises, production of high-level communication products for executive management, establishment of the FBI’s Leave Bank, leading efforts to create a single interface system to assist employees working overseas, obtaining back overtime pay for employees working in danger zones overseas, serving as liaison the 9/11 Review Commission (The FBI: Protecting the Homeland in the 21st Century), teaching intelligence analysts how to use forensic software to analyze digital evidence during the Boston Bombing investigation in April 2013, and contributing to media exploitation efforts during the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan in 2011.

No stranger to the Inspector General Community, Dr. Robinson served as special assistant to the IG at the U.S. Department of Commerce, OIG and served as writer-editor at the National Science Foundation OIG where she produced the IG’s Semiannual Report to Congress.    

Dr. Robinson received numerous awards and accolades for her body of work, most notably the ODNI Meritorious Unit Citation and a Congressional Commendation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Virginia Union University, a master’s degree in organizational communications from Bowie State University and doctorate a degree in management and organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix.  She is also a Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner© and is certified in conflict resolution from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
