

Mr. Leo J. FitzHarris was selected as the Deputy Inspector General for Mission Support, DoD Office of Inspector General, in August 2023. In this role, he leads the Mission Support Team and is the principal advisor to the Inspector General and Principal Deputy Inspector General on the agency’s administrative and operational support. Prior to his selection, Mr. FitzHarris served as the Assistant Inspector General for Strategic Planning and Performance. In that role, he was responsible for integrating the IG’s vision into operations through robust strategic and oversight planning, continuous process improvement, performance management, and workforce planning initiatives.
Mr. FitzHarris has over 20 years of experience in the DoD oversight community. He joined the DoD OIG in 2001 and steadily progressed through positions of responsibility in administrative investigations. Mr. FitzHarris has investigated and supervised investigations into allegations of whistleblower reprisal and restrictions filed by Service members, DoD employees, and contractors. Later, he served as the Deputy Director of the Investigations of Senior Officials Directorate, managing the DoD’s administrative investigations into allegations against General/Flag officers, members of the Senior Executive Service, and political appointees. Since 2015, Mr. FitzHarris has focused on transforming organizational performance and enhancing employee engagement.
Before joining the DoD OIG, Mr. FitzHarris served as a logistics officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. His last active duty assignment was as an Inspector-Investigator with the Inspector General of the Marine Corps.
Mr. FitzHarris is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and holds a master’s degree from Georgetown University.
