On September 25, 2024, the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) completed a quality assessment review of the Defense Health Agency Office of the Inspector General (DHA OIG).
The DoD OIG determined that the system of internal safeguards and management procedures for the investigative function of the DHA OIG in effect for calendar years 2020 through 2023 complied with the quality standards established by the DoD or with other applicable guidelines. The DoD OIG identified five positive attributes within the DHA OIG’s administrative investigative operations.
Among them, the DoD OIG determined that the DHA OIG created and instituted a comprehensive and rigorous 40-hour Military Whistleblower Reprisal and Restriction training course for all DHA OIG investigating officers, had an effective and extensive quality assurance program, and had dedicated legal support.
The DoD OIG made eight recommendations to address the areas for improvement identified during the review. The DHA IG concurred with all of the findings and agreed to take actions in response to each of the recommendations, five of which were closed before issuance of the final report.
